When do we have lamb?

We do not force our sheep to lamb out of season. However white face sheep such as the Romney breed tend to lamb in the fall and early spring months. Being so lamb is only available when the sheep decide it is so!

We allow the lamb to stay with the ewe in a pen until the lamb is large and strong enough to go back into the flock, usually within a week or two of birth. During this time the ewe receives quality organic alfalfa pellets (aids in clean wool), kelp, and some type of alfalfa hay for roughage.

Our slogan is based on what we know to be the best for the sheep. We add Diatomaceous earth to loose salts for internal parasite control, keep watch of our animals, and use garlic when needed. Kelp is a wonderful source of added nutrition that helps increase wool yield, decreases disease such as White Muscle, and assists with metabolism regulation. For more information on where our feed comes from and the standards set please see the About Us link on the left side of the page.

  •               How do we sell the sheep and the wool?

Our sheep are sold by either the whole lamb at around 80 pounds of weight to ensure a quality carcass or can be processed at a USDA facility for individual cuts (PDF file). Prices vary based on how lamb is purchased, delivery options, and processing fees. Generally the lamb can be bought live for as low as $2.50 per pound live weight and if processing is added a delivery fee will be assessed based on meat delivery. We can ship the meat within the United States in a cold box with dry ice.

Families and chefs have several options for how to have their lamb processed and below is a brief description of different cut packages:

Standard lamb - Good for anyone who wants a variety of meat cuts for the family table or themselves! Processed into 4 leg roasts (leg cut in half), 4 shoulder roasts, (cut in half roasts), chops, short ribs and ground. Some want more ground or chops (yes you can get both!) so have one or more of the shoulders used for these cuts.

Classic lamb -  Are you the one searching for great ways to cook that special family dinner and want that meal to look just like the picture? This is for you - 2 whole legs of lamb, 2 square cut shoulder roast, 2 whole shanks, 2 spare ribs, 2 loin roasts and a a little ground meat from the neck and trimmings.

Chop lamb Can't get enough chops? Love to grill and broil or even bake? You can have a whole lamb processed into chops, ribs and a some ground lamb. Shoulder chops, leg chops (steaks), loin chops and sliced shanks.  The ribs can be left as ribs (spare or short) or added to the ground lamb portion.

Boneless lamb - Great for those who want lamb for recipe additions, crock potters, or for the pet food extraordinaire!  The lamb is processed into ground lamb and boneless meat (stew chunks/cubes). The bones can be packaged as soup/pet bones.

Hobby chef or pit boss special - Are you deep pitting or have a huge BBQ or party to feed? The lamb can simply be cut into half or quarters.  This gives you large sections of lamb with which to work.

Our wool is available by the pound and we shear the sheep in April each year after crutching earlier in the year to keep the fleece clean during lambing for the health of the ewe and the lamb. We walk our pasture weekly and pull weeds and keep our corrals as weed free as possible and our slab cleaned off too so our wool stays as clean as it can.
